Directions:


1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Cook the ziti pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain well and set aside.


2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, onion, and garlic until the sausage is browned and the onion is tender. Drain off the excess fat.


3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, water, basil, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.


4. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and pepper. 


5. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the cooked pasta. Top with half of the sausage mixture, half of the ricotta cheese mixture, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.


6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
