"Ingredients:
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 lb pasta
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish
Directions:
1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, add the onion and garlic, cook until the onions are translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
3. Add the crushed tomatoes to the skillet, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow it to cook for about 10 minutes.
4. While the tomato mixture is simmering, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the pasta water.
5. Add the sausage back into the skillet with the tomato mixture. Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, cooking until the cheese has melted and the sauce is creamy.
6. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water.
7. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to combine the pasta with the sauce.
8. Serve the pasta hot, garnished with fresh basil.
